Relationships
Growing up as the second of six children born to two military veterans, I've had a lot of experience dealing with different personalities and dynamics in my family. This unique upbringing has sharpened my interpersonal skills, helping me to effectively manage and comprehend various temperaments and communication styles. In addition, my family and I have enjoyed arranging murder mystery parties, which not only provided amusement but also gave me excellent expertise in event planning and coordination.
My formal education enhanced my awareness of human interactions. After completing a relational communication class, I learned a lot about love languages, attachment types, and how different people express their needs. I was also able to take a truth, ethics, and deception class, where I learned the ways in which we as humans communicate in deceptive ways. This intellectual education has helped me connect with others more profoundly and meaningfully, both professionally and personally.
During my time at The University of Alabama I served as a Resident Advisor for two years and as a summer staff member for an additional two summers. In these roles, I had the opportunity to develop relationships with residents, assisting them in adjusting to living away from home and establishing a sense of comfort in a new environment. This experience helped me build my leadership skills as well as my capacity to support and advise others during times of transition.
My work with Habitat for Humanity allowed me to form long-term relationships while contributing to important community projects. Working with diverse groups of people to achieve a shared objective improved my collaboration abilities and expanded my passion for community service.
My participation in ASAP Poetry provides a unique opportunity to foster community through spoken word. This involvement allowed me to express myself creatively while also connecting with others emotionally, reaffirming the importance of shared experiences and storytelling.
Overall, my professional and personal connections have been molded by a diverse range of experiences, including family dynamics, academic learning, leadership responsibilities, and community involvement. These broad contacts have given me the ability to negotiate and cultivate relationships in a variety of settings, always striving to develop understanding, support, and meaningful connections.
